Flight from Atlanta to Reykjavik

FAQs - booking Iceland flights

  • Which airport should I fly into in Iceland from Atlanta?

Almost all international flights to Iceland fly into Keflavik International Airport (KEF), which is the largest airport in Iceland. However, for domestic connections, or if you’re flying into Greenland, transfer to Reykjavík Domestic Airport (RKV), about 31 miles from KEF, which offers connections to other smaller airports in the country. If you’re flying north, connect to Akureyri Airport (AEY), while those heading south can fly to Selfoss Airport (SEL), the busiest in the region. If you’re headed for Westfjords, Ísafjörður Airport (IFJ) would be ideal, while Egilsstaðir Airport (EGS) and Stykkishólmur Airport (SYK) would serve well for travels to the east and west, respectively.

  • What can I do during a layover at Keflavik International Airport?

There are many things to do at KEF during a layover. The airport is home to several restaurants and shops, including duty-free shops. Moreover, it’s the best place to buy alcohol, since it's very expensive in Iceland. The airport also has a children’s play area where the kids can burn off some energy as you enjoy the views on one of the airport’s recliners. The Blue Lagoon is also just 15min away; famous for its azure healing waters, it’s a must-visit for most people visiting Iceland.

  • What are the passport and visa requirements for flights from Atlanta to Iceland?

US citizens will need a valid passport before gaining entry into Iceland. The passport should be valid for about three months beyond their intended day of departure from Iceland. Since Iceland is part of the Schengen area, US citizens don’t need a visa for stays less than 90 days. If you intend to stay longer, apply for the appropriate visa at the embassy.

  • What are the public transport options from Keflavik International Airport?

Public buses and taxis are the main forms of public transportation at KEF. The airport is served by the Flybus shuttle, and the BSI Bus Terminal in Reykjavik works with the airport to send buses corresponding with the arrival and departure of flights at KEF. The bus trip from KEF to downtown takes about 90min. Option B is taking a taxi. Aoalstooin and Okuleioir have taxis curbside at KEF, and the trip downtown takes about 60min.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from Atlanta to Iceland?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from Atlanta to Iceland.

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from Atlanta to Iceland?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a flight to Iceland from Atlanta is likely to change within 7 days, so travelers know whether to wait or book now.

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights from Atlanta to Iceland?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional round-trip ticket. You could then fly to Iceland with an airline and back to Atlanta with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from Atlanta to Iceland?

Sometimes travel dates aren't set in stone. If your preferred travel dates have some wiggle room, flexible dates will show you all the options when flying to Iceland from Atlanta up to 3 days before/after your preferred dates. You can then pick the flights that suit you best.

They were an hour late and they didn’t have my wheelchair for me

Very frustrated with boarding gate crew. She announced the plane was small and they would be limiting us to one item to carry on. Not a problem for me as I understand the tiny planes have limited space!! Not the case here! It was a rather large plane and had plenty of room for bags! So because I don’t want to be one of “those people” who ignores the request to check a carry on I did so asking if I would be able to pick it up at the bottom of the ramp on arrival in Knoxville to which she responded “yes”! Then I watched as every other passenger held onto their 2 items and boarded!! Then when we arrived in Knoxville our 2 carry ons had been put with all the other luggage and we had to go to baggage pick up and wait for all the big checked bags to come off the carousel! So she lied!! Frustrating. Next time I won’t be so nice!

Checking in at the airport the agent only booked the first keg of my trip and had my checked luggage going to the airport with a layover! Never was issued a boarding pass for the second leg or received sticker fir my checked bag. All was well in the end! Delta agents helped to resolve the situation!!!

I would fly again the whole experience was great. The only feed back I can give that they don't do that American Airlines does is the crew there is more humorous with boarding and thank their passengers. It makes it more fun to fly with them. I would however fly Delta again.

Big plane, long flight, absolutely no leg room and basically non existent air! I am 5”4’ and always travel Main Cabin, I was miserable on this plane and could barely move when we arrived in Cabo due to the cramped leg area!

The pilots were good. Disappointing when planes don't have electrical ports

Made the Atlanta to Pittsburgh trip many times, with Delta no issues

Our flight was delayed in Atlanta. The staff could have gave us an explanation for the delay and how long it would be.

I usually have a positive experience with Delta. Complimentary upgrades are always nice!

The experience was good and the flight departed on time and landed early

terrible. Because I felt very unwell during the flight. How do they leave a woman alone in the middle of 2 men? an obese man who was falling on top of me.

They put me on a chair in between two men, one overweight who was almost falling on top of me, and the other was even uncomfortable because I was half falling because of what the other was pushing me. I stayed with. my feet were swollen from fluid retention and from being unable to accommodate myself. it was very uncomfortable. I asked for help but they told me that the flight was full and they couldn't help me. I got off the plane almost unable to walk due to the inflammation. and then at FLL airport I asked for help because I couldn't go to my next flight, which was a connection.

The walk from baggage claim to the taxi is very difficult for older people I will never fly into JFK again. It is physically challenging

Overall fine but both ways for this trip was delayed.

Flight was delayed by almost 5 hours. Suitcase was not loaded despite the flight being near empty (my colleagues’ suitcases did reach JFK, unlike mine). Had to argue on phone to get JetBlue to deliver the case to my hotel. Never again

The flight was excellent. The crew was welcoming and attentive.

Great! I love Jet Blue. My favorite airline! Very efficient, clean and timely.

Run out of snack choices. Why are the seats not padded for your butt? Are we sitting on blocks of wood or metal for $250-300 a pop? This ain’t spirit. Let’s get it together people

We were told that our flight would be delayed for 90+ minutes because of weather, so we went to get something to eat only to have them randomly start boarding 15 minutes after the announcement, with no warning.

Entertainment... No earphones passed out. Many including me couldn't use the TV. Legroom was good. Crew was indifferent and a bit surly. Free wifi was a nice convenience. Check in desk location was unknown. Gate number on the boarding passes was wrong.

After the morning frenzy of 35 min wait through CLT security at 4;30 AM, it was nice to have a smooth pleasant boarding experience. This 6:30 AM flight was not full. We were able to get seated swiftly and took off promptly. Nice touch they distributed the old fashioned headsets with 8 mm jacks. Snacks were decent and arrival was uneventful.

My window shade didn’t work. So I missed coming into my city. ☹️

Flight was delayed in the gate by 5 hours and ultimately cancelled- rebooking service by United agents was terrible

Everything was pretty good except for food. They need to improve on it compared to other airlines.

Flight was delayed due to the late arrival of the catering truck, which is quite unacceptable. There was a beverage service, but no pretzel, or cookie, or nuts were served in coach.

Not worth the premium paid for the first class ticket

Not worth the price of premium class ticket paid, felt more like steerage.

Flighty delayed on boarding - then group 1 had to check their carry on bags but groups 3 and beyond could carry bags on - very inconvenient for weekend business trip with no checked baggage. Then delayed on the runway - before take off. No communication from pilot on why or how long. Wifi/Entertainment didn't work for 4+ flight. Upon arrival, attendants announced wrong carousel for baggage claim - everyone was waiting at the wrong place for their checked bags. This was a mess united!

I flew Delta last week and United Airlines is a poor substitute mechanical problems with the plane and shitty food among other things made my travel experience what’s become to be expected from United no way is it ever worth the money they make us pay

I had a great flight. Everything went smoothly and the flight arrived early.

My experience with Icelandair was just ok, nothing special. Requested wheelchair service for my wife and none was offered at checking in Baltimore or available for her upon arrival at Gatwick airport in London.

Decent service - nice seats. Crew were not overly attentive but can’t complain overall for the money

Very nice flight, easy connections in Keflavík, and friendly crew.

I will never fly this airline again. Checking in was poor , we had to go back to the check in counter at Raleigh - Durham international airport three times because they didn’t issue my boarding pass but rather duplicated my husband’s twice which caused a big headache at the passport control at the airport which triggered security alert and wouldn’t let us pass through we we had to wait for long time to be able to explain and clear everything after talking to the supervisor.. No food on the plane , not even crackers. No food was offered to buy ether . No ear phone was provided . Very little time to make from one plane to another and nobody to assist with smooth transition. Flight itself , we felt safe so thank you to the pilots . But customer service was terrible . We spent $ 2500 on 2 tickets, so I cannot say that service was consistent with the price .

Seats are way too much now with these new airplanes especially long flights like we had. I was 7 month pregnant and in a lot of discomfort due to small seats.

Food was horrible. This wasn’t business class. No leg space, can’t sleep in row position, huge delay

I liked how easy my transfers between flights in Keflavik were. I would have appreciated more food options in Keflavik.

The plane was flaming hot! Could not breathe. Everyone coughing from heat. Awful.

My biggest problem was the flight from KEF to DUB was delayed, which caused me to miss my connecting flight in DUB and we were forced into an unplanned 10-hour layover in DUB. Crew and boarding staff were all very friendly but this was a real inconvenience and especially uncomfortable for my disabled wife.

Not much! This was my first flight with Iceland air and unfortunately it wasn’t what I have expected. My luggage is lost nothing as of yet where it was left. Not a good service at all!!

For such a long flight they should offer tea or coffee in between two meals.

No seat assignment . Last on board . Though I would not receive any boarding pass

last minute was rebooked. This rebooking made me miss my connection, added a stop in my itinerary without my approval, and had me arriving 10 hours later to my destination...for a delay that was 2 hours. To boot, my final flight from London to Athens booked me in a middle seat, where I originally booked all aisle seats. This was incredibly uncomfortable for a 24 hour journey and made me incredibly upset.

Did not appreciate “hidden fees” to check a bag for international flight and purchase a seat to be next to my spouse. Won’t choose this airline again.

The flight left over 2 hours late and caused me to miss my connecting flight. Consequently, I missed my cruise ship out of Barcelona. The cost associated with this miss was as follows: Airfare to Sicily Italy to get on the ship TWO days late - $232.30 Taxi from Airport to hotel $35 Dinner at hotel $38 Hotel in Barcelona - $208 Taxi from Sicily to hotel $70 Hotel in Sicily - $148 Prorated time missed on cruise $ 1,143

No meal. Flight crew was wonderful, happily finding me storage for my guitar. THANK YOU!!!

My seat was moved multiple times. I picked out the perfect seats beforehand. I even paid extra money for them. However, I was moved to a middle seat without warning at the last minute. It was like my worst nightmare. But other than that, the actual flight was good. Everything was on time or even early and the flight was smooth.

A220 plane had 5 seats across which is great for couples who can snag the A&C seats. Seat itself is borderline comfortable but still tough on a 5+ hour flight. Overhead bins are small so if you're not in at least boarding group 5, you could be in trouble. No included food service. Non-alcoholic drinks are free but even the most basic snacks are for a charge. Price was reasonable for the only direct SEA-YUL flight. Boarding is efficient even managing passport checks. Worth flying for the direct flight.

The original flight from Boston to Toronto was canceled because of a mechanical failure. I was then scheduled on a flight to go from Boston to Montreal and then Montreal to Toronto. The flight was extremely full and I had to check my carry-on bag. When I actually got on the plane there appeared to be room for my bag. I understand the mechanical failures happen. But it was frustrating that they pestered me to check my bag when I don't believe it was necessary. Additionally, not just with Air Canada, modern airline seats are incredibly uncomfortable. There is considerable research that shows that the shape of them is poor for back health.
