The King Charles Inn is located in Charleston’s Historic District and dates back to the early 19th century. Originally the home of the Pavilion Hotel, this hotel hosted Edgar Allen Poe when he served as a soldier at Fort Moultrie nearby. The King Charles Inn was built in the same space in 1958 and has a rich history in a beautiful part of South Carolina.

Guests don’t need to leave this majestic space to enjoy great Charleston dining as BREW Pub and Café is on-site. This café offers a hearty breakfast with items like chocolate croissants, homemade quiches, and egg sandwiches. There are both good public transportation options as well as driving connections to the King Charles Inn from Charleston International Airport. If you come by car, the journey will take about 20 to 30m. Take the I-26 until exit 221B. From here, continue on one of the two right lanes to merge onto Meeting Street, where the hotel will appear on the right hand side. Public transport will take about 45m with the XP3 line to Downtown Charleston. Exit at Visitors Center/Charleston Museum and walk the remaining 10m on foot to the hotel.
To explore the surrounding area in your own time, guests can rent a bike from the on-site bike rental at the hotel. Bike rentals come at an additional charge of approximately $6 for the first hour and about $3 for each subsequent hour. The hotel concierges are also happy to help provide a map with bike trails or help you complete the rental booking. Guests can also enjoy a discount at the nearby fitness club EcoFitness to work out.
Although all children are welcome to stay, extra beds cannot be accommodated by the King Charles Inn. However, the hotel features adjoining rooms if families need more space, with either a king-size bed in one and a double bed in the other, or two rooms with double beds in each. Cribs are available free of charge for infants.
